Air New Zealand was established in the year 1940 with the name Tasman Empire Airways Limited, later renaming to Air New Zealand in 1965. The airline is the national carrier of New Zealand and flies to over 50 destinations. Air New Zealand operates from its main hubs at Christchurch International Airport; Hong Kong International Airport; Los Angeles International Airport; and Wellington International Airport. In the year 2010 the New Zealand government approved an alliance between budget airline Virgin Blue and Air New Zealand.
