Shankar Shanmugam also known as S. Shankar or Shankar is an Indian Film Director and Producer. He was born on 17 August 1963 in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. S. Shankar mainly works in the Tamil Film Industry. He made his directorial debut with Film Gentleman (1993), for which he was awarded the Filmfare Best Director award and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award. S. Shankar directed two films Indian (1996) and Jeans (1998), which were submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by M.G.R. University. Shankar is the highest-paid filmmaker in India.
S. Shankar was born in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. His father was named Shanmugam and his Mother was named Muthulakshmi. He completed his diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Central Polytechnic College. S. Shankar married Easwari Shankar. The couple was blessed with three children Aishwarya Shankar, Aditi Shankar, and Ajith Shankar. He is Hindu by Religion and Horoscope or Sun Sign Leo.
